Blackout Memphis is a dark action game driven by high speed, challenging difficulty, and a demanding soundtrack of electronic music in a world filled with violence. The story takes place in an alternate version of Memphis in the early 2000s.

You take on the role of an ordinary family man, worn out by the struggles of his demanding job, the challenges of a long-term marriage to a luxury-obsessed wife, and raising an extroverted teenage daughter. Constant news coverage of increasing violence in Memphis, city-wide power outages, and the growing problems of everyday life wear the father down. After being tormented by insomnia on one hand, and by cruel nightmares during the few short moments of sleep on the other, along with increasingly frequent memory gaps making normal daily life impossible, he seeks psychological treatment.

As the medication starts to take effect over time and family life slowly stabilizes, the city sinks into a bloody wave of violence. Every day brings new murders and bloody gang crime. The number of victims never seems to stop. More and more frequent power outages unsettle the population. No one is safe anymore. Why aren’t the authorities doing anything? But it’s not just Memphis that’s off. Is everything really as it seems?

Every shot is lethal. Every blow brings you closer to death. Every defeat sends you back to the start, while the soundtrack drives you to take on the challenge again.

As the game progresses, different animal masks can be unlocked to conceal the main character’s identity. For each level, a mask from a gallery of unlocked options can be chosen, granting the player a special ability or altering the game’s appearance
A wide arsenal of deadly melee and ranged weapons is available to the player per level. From a baseball bat to an assault rifle, everything can be used against the gangsters
Weapons can be thrown to stun or kill opponents. The fate of a downed and stunned opponent can be sealed with a finishing move
A scoring system displays the player's performance per level as a grade
In the fast-paced fights, rapidly following attacks and kills can be combined into combos to increase the high score
